Welcome to Thutong Residence
Thutong, which means “a place of learning”, opened its doors in 2022 and was the first of the Cluster residences built to accommodate students. The residence initially accommodated both male and female students. However, this was changed in 2023 into a female-only residence.
Our residence is led by a team of dynamic and responsible House committees assisted by block and floor leaders. These leaders are always available to assist in creating an environment that is socially and academically conducive for Thutong’s residents.
In the three years of our existence, our netball team has been crowned three times as the Inter-residence league champions, which is a legacy we want to continue. Our wish is to turn the residence into the home of netball.
That was not our only victory. In 2024, in collaboration with our brothers from Lethabong Residence, we won the prize for the best stall at the Mahikeng Campus’s Heritage Day celebrations. This is another distinction we hope to keep in the coming years.
We encourage students to make use of all the support services available on campus, including peer mentors in the residence. All these services are available for free.
Lastly, students are urged to familiarise themselves with and respect the residence rules so that all residents can experience a comfortable and pleasant stay at Thutong Residence.
