28 October 2021
The NWU student population has already been informed by the ISEC that the Commission resolved not to ratify the outcome of the 2021/2022 SCC election results owing to the Commission’s finding that the technical difficulties that were experienced during the voting period led to an outcome in which ISEC could not rely on the relevant data to make a decision regarding fairness.
The Vice-Chancellor was informed of the outcome of ISEC’s finding and accepted the recommendations of ISEC to declare the outcome of the election results null and void, and to allow for a new voting process. Read the full notice

Technical challenges experienced with the electronic voting system
On 18 October 2021, the University and the Independent Students’ Electoral Commission (ISEC) became aware of technical challenges experienced by student voters, who attempted to vote. The technical challenges resulted in some student voters not being able to complete their voting process within the prescribed amount of time set for the voting site, with this as a result of challenges experienced with network stability. Upon receipt of the advice from the ISEC, the University has resolved to grant an opportunity to those student voters who logged in but were unable to complete casting their vote due to the network instability. This opportunity remains available for the duration of the voting period until 20 October 2021 at 13:00 and may be exercised only by students whose voting was negatively affected by the network instability.
Student voters are further informed that the voting system is intelligently programmed to be able to identify and allow ONLY those voters who could not complete casting their vote as a result of the network instability. Should you have clicked SUBMIT, you are assured that your vote has been correctly captured and that the system will not allow you an opportunity to cast a subsequent vote.
Student voters who have not yet proceeded to cast their votes, may still proceed to do so before 13:00 on 20 October 2021. Read the full notice
