Research Process

The research process is a systematic and iterative journey through which a researcher identifies a problem, generates new knowledge, and communicates findings that contribute to understanding and addressing real-world challenges.

Research is more than simply collecting data or writing a dissertation. It is a structured process that begins with identifying a meaningful problem and progresses through a series of interconnected steps, including reviewing existing knowledge, designing a study, collecting and analysing data, and communicating findings. Each step builds upon the previous one and contributes to producing trustworthy and useful knowledge.

Although the research process is often presented as a sequence of stages, it is rarely a straightforward linear journey. Researchers frequently revisit earlier decisions, refine research questions, adjust methods, and respond to new insights that emerge during the study. Understanding the overall research process can help postgraduate students navigate their research journey with greater confidence and purpose.
