Corridors
Veritas is home to seven unique corridors, each with their own identity, traditions and spirit. Every corridor has its own lounge, traditions and symbols; creating a strong sense of belonging and brotherhood from the day you move in.

1) First Base

First-Base

Theme: Baseball
Mascot: Ouma Stella & Oupa Gattie “In your face, First Base!” A proud American baseball–inspired corridor known for big spirit and a long history of leadership and musicality. The corridor HC, Deputy Primand Corridor Prim receive ceremonial bats, passed down year after year as symbols of responsibility. Residents greet the corridor by singing a song, and corridor meetings end with a proud salute to First Base tradition. With a reputation for discipline, togetherness and strong mentorship, First Base is not only the foundation of the Veritas but of our brotherhood.

2) Bureaucrats

Bureaucrats
Theme: Western Dessert
Mascot: Buksie, Groot Groen Kaktus & Klein Swart Wurmpie “Crats, Crats, Bureaucrats!” Bureaucrats are full of charm and character. From its well-loved corridor greeting to the proudly displayed cane holder taken to formal dinners,meetings and sport games, this corridor is known for big personalities and bigger spirit. Ronk week helps new residents' bond with seniors through student-led activities and lighthearted traditions, creating lifelong connections and campus pride.

3) Bad Boys

Bad-Boys
Theme: Black & White
Mascot: Bacchus “Once a Bad Boy – Always a Bad Boy. ” Bad Boys is one of Veritas’ most storied corridors, known for its dramatic entrances, pep energy and unforgettable corridor memories. On meeting nights, residents slap the wall before entering the lounge, confirming their presence with the iconic call and response. The corridor is famous for never smiling in photos, ensuring the legends of Bad Boys live permanently on the wall with their annual Corridor-Photo. With games, corridor idols and strong brotherhood values, Bad Boys is a proud home for those with a bit of attitude and a lot of heart.

4) Shibumi

Theme Inspiration: Vikings
Mascot: The Axe, Obelix & Oreo“Hoe, ha, Shibumila!” The Shibumi corridor represents Effortless Perfection. Each resident receives a wooden mini axe as a symbol of belonging, never used for anything except tradition and pride.Two named indoor plants (Dwergie & Gwhaps) honour the corridor’s proximity to NWU’s botanical gardens. One of Shibumi’s most cherished customs occurs on 13 February, when residents collect sunflowers to give to someone special on Valentine’s Day.

5) Fifth Avenue

Theme Inspiration: 5th Avenue Champagne
Mascot: Oupa Paulus & Oupa Quintis “Vyf, Vyf, Groot Vyf!” Champagne, celebration and leadership define Fifth Avenue. Corridor birthdays are marked with a bottle being opened in honour of the resident, while corridor achievements are rewarded with custody of the prestigious 5th Avenue Cane. When the thin copper pipe hits the floor, everyone knows: It’s time for corridor coffee, a relaxed break for community and conversation. Fifth Avenue is home to Legend, a well-known tradition symbolised by an outlined figure on the corridor floor. Residents may walk across Legend, while guests respectfully walk around him.

6) Haak en Steek

Theme Inspiration: Sword and Sickle
Mascots: Petunia, Pierre & RP “Wie bly bo, Haak en Steek!” Haak & Steek is a corridor grounded in tradition, identity and strong residence spirit. With a proud culture of participation and unity, the men of Haak & Steek bring energy to every Veritas event and are always ready to lead from the front. Their year concludes with the well-known Steek-Afsluiting, a meaningful celebration that looks back on the year’s achievements and growth while strengthening the bonds among residents.

7) Seven Seas

Seven-Seas
Theme: Pirates
Mascot: The Golden Bell, Anke die Anker & Kaptein Skuim “Seas, Seas, Seven Seas!” Seven Seas is one of the most tradition-filled corridors in Veritas history. The iconic corridor war-cry is performed with the ringing of the Golden Bell before major events. The corridor draws on pirate and sailor themes, celebrating exploration, courage and legendary corridor spirit. As the birthplace of the famous Seven Seas Cane, this corridor has left an unmistakable mark on Veritas’ heritage. A lot of Ladies residences try to find the famous Bell of Veritas to try and ring it, many have tried, many have failed. It is the duty of the residents of Seven Seas to protect the bell. The bell is only allowed to be rung by residents of Seven Seas, when you have a female visitor over, when you graduate or to pay respect when someone in Veritas passed away.
