Termination of membership of Vanderbijlpark Student Campus Council

5 April 2024

On 22 March 2024, a Disciplinary Hearing Committee of the NWU - established in terms of paragraph 3.1 of the NWU Manual for Student Discipline - found 15 members of the Vanderbijlpark Student Campus Council (SCC) guilty of misconduct in accordance with paragraphs 72-76 of the Statute and the Policy on Student Discipline. The outcome of the committee's findings and sanction was concluded on 3 April 2024, and the SCC members were informed accordingly.

Following the completion of the aforementioned disciplinary processes, read in conjunction with paragraph 17.1.5 of the Institutional Rules on Student Governance (IRSG 2023), the membership of 15 Vanderbijlpark SCC members were terminated by virtue of operation of the IRSG from the date that they were informed of the findings. Consequently, 15 vacancies now exist within the Vanderbijlpark SCC.

The NWU is required to adhere to its policies and rules and there rests a legitimate expectation by NWU stakeholders - including students - that the university will give effect to such. Consequently, the NWU will now proceed to address the existing vacancies, done in accordance with the IRSG, to ensure effective student governance on the Vanderbijlpark Campus.

The student community will be updated as progress is made in this regard. Further enquiries pertaining to Student Life activities and programmes can be directed to the Campus Director: Student Life, Mr Chis Williams (55428606@nwu.ac.za).
