Senior students registration updates

Further extension of the registration period

11 February 2026

Please be informed that the registration period for undergraduate students has been further extended until Friday, 20 February 2026. This is to accommodate all students who are still awaiting resolution of a variety of issues to ensure their registration status reflect as final. Registration for postgraduate students remains open until Tuesday, 31 March 2026. We urge (prospective) students to accept the final offers and finalise the applicable registration stages as a matter of urgency.
The extension will not apply to qualifications or programmes where targets have been met, in terms of the university’s enrolment plan as agreed with the Department of Higher Education and Training.

Arrangements have been made with faculties to ensure that students who have registered late can be accommodated, as classes have already commenced on 9 February.

Progress: Registration at the NWU

2 February 2026

These problems are a result of bugs in the new system which our technical team have been working tirelessly to resolve. Students who have submitted programme version changes

16 January 2026

If you have submitted a request to change your programme version and you are still awaiting feedback from the faculty, you can only start your registration process once the feedback has been received. This is important to avoid unnecessary delays in the registration process for your new programme version, which may have additional administrative and financial implications if you register for your old and new programme. Please keep an eye out for direct communication on the progress of your request and for confirmation to proceed with your online registration.

Due date for student request for possible change of program version: 28/01/2026

Module marks not visible on Student Portal

The finalisation of module marks can sometimes result in the marks not displaying on the Student Portal. However, once the process has been finalised, the marks will again be visible. The process will be finalised before senior registration starts on 26 January 2026. Remember, senior registration will be done in a staggered approach, therefore, some faculties will register before others.

Issuing of propensity letters for NSFAS students

Please note that the processing of NSFAS propensity letters is currently underway. Letters are issued only to students who appear on the official list received by the university from NSFAS and who meet the applicable eligibility requirements, including the 51% academic progression threshold. Qualifying students will receive their letters directly from the various faculties once the process has been finalised.

Issuing of completion letters for Faculty of Education students

The university has made arrangements with SACE regarding the issuing of completion letters, to enable you to register with the professional body. As the academic records are finalised, the official completion letters will be issued by the university to SACE.

Finalisation of marks for academic transcripts

Faculties are busy with the finalisation of the academic marks, including the examination committee process. As results are finalised, the relevant marks are updated on a daily basis. The process will be finalised before senior registration starts on 26 January 2026. Remember, senior registration will be done in a staggered approach, therefore, some faculties will register before others.
