Teaching is not just a job for Janha

North-West University (NWU) alumna Janha Scholtz, is the true definition of a beauty with brains. This 25-year-old, who was crowned Miss NWU Vaal in 2015, is currently doing big things in Asia.

She currently works as an English teacher in Hong Kong. “I have the wonderful privilege of spending my days teaching English to children between the ages of three years and 12 years. It brings so much joy into my life, to see my students learn and improve their language skills,” says Janha.

She obtained her BA Communication degree in 2017, and a BA Hons in Communication for Social Change in 2018, both from the NWU. She states that the NWU was an integral part of her growth into adulthood. It not only equipped her academically, but also with life experiences.

“My role as Miss NWU Vaal in 2015 was one of the most challenging yet rewarding years of my life. I had the opportunity to meet and learn from people from diverse backgrounds, with diverse world views. I learned valuable lessons about myself and from each of these people, and I still apply these lessons in my life today,” she says.

She adds that all the experiences at the NWU gave her the courage to step out of her comfort zone, move across the world, and pursue a different path from what she had initially studied.

In varsity she was also part of the Golden Key International Honour Society. Her biggest achievement since graduating was becoming financially independent, and expanding her horizons and dreams.

In the next five years, she sees herself back in South Africa, pursuing a career in film and television. She also sees herself having a talk or travel show.
