Accredited student accommodation facilities
Zero tolerance to fraud
The North-West University (NWU) recognises the important role that private individuals and entities play in availing their accommodation facilities to students. It is crucial for students to live in environments that are safe and conducive for learning and growth. Therefore, a sound relationship/partnership between the NWU and private accommodation providers in undoubtedly crucial. This relationship must be based on transparency, openness, and trust.
Over the past few years, the NWU had to deal with unfortunate incidents that were caused by a few unscrupulous private accommodation providers. Some of these have been reported to law enforcement agencies and investigations are underway. The NWU has adopted a zero-tolerance approach to dishonest accommodation providers who collude with some students and staff to defraud the university and South African taxpayers.
We urge all private accommodation providers to continue offering a much-needed service for students and protect the integrity of their business. Suspicious acts of collusion and dishonesty can be reported to nwu@whistleblowing.co.za. More information about our whistleblowing platform.
