Terms and Conditions for NWU Billboard Takeover Competition

1. Eligibility

  • This competition is open to all currently registered students of North-West University (NWU) across all campuses.
  • To enter, participants must be able to provide a valid NWU student number upon request.

2. How to enter?

Participants can enter the competition through two methods:

Online Entry starts 6 September!

  • Visit our Instagram profile and fill out the Q&A on what makes NWU great for you on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 to 18 September 2024.

On-Campus Entry:

  • Look out for the “What’s In The Box?” activation on your campus on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 12:00 and 14:00 from 9 to 18 September 2024.
  • Collect a postcard from the “What’s In The Box?” station and write your message about what makes NWU great for you.
  • Fill in your details and place your postcard in the box.
  • Before submitting your entry, snap a picture of yourself with your message and the “What’s In The Box?” station.
  • Share the photo on social media, tagging NWU and using the hashtags #GreatnessWithoutBoundaries and #20yearsOfGreatness.
  • Entries without a social media post or without the appropriate tags/hashtags will be considered ineligible.

3. Prizes

  • One winner from each campus will be selected based on the creativity, originality, and sincerity of their message.
  • The winning entry from each campus will be professionally photographed, and the students message and photo will be displayed on the campus billboard.
  • The photoshoot will take place on a date to be determined by NWU and the winner.
  • The billboard featuring the winner’s message will be installed in October 2024 and will remain in place for a specified period, subject to NWUs discretion.

4. Important Dates

  • Competition entries open on 6 September 2024 and close on 18 September 2024.
  • Winners will be announced on 20 September 2024.
  • The billboard will be installed in October 2024.

5. General Terms

  • By entering the competition, participants consent to the processing of their personal data (including names, student numbers, images, and messages) by NWU for the purposes of administering the competition and promoting NWU. The data will be processed in accordance with NWU’s data protection policies and the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. Participants agree to have their name, message and image used by NWU for promotional purposes across various platforms, including social media, website, and on-campus displays.
  • By entering the competition, participants confirm that their submitted work is original and created solely by themselves. They guarantee that the content does not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others and has not been previously published or submitted for any other competition or publication.
  • Entries (messaging) are subject to editing for the purpose of clarity, design, or suitability for the billboard display.
  • NWU reserves the right to use participants’ messages in future campaigns or promotional activities without requiring further consent from the participants.
  • NWU reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not adhere to these terms and conditions.
  • The decision of the judging panel is final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the decision.
  • Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or other alternatives.
  • NWU is not responsible for any technical issues or failures related to the submission of entries.

  • Please note that all efforts will be made to ensure the billboard reveal is conducted smoothly; however, NWU is not liable for any unforeseen circumstances that may affect the competition or the installation of the billboard. NWU reserves the right to cancel or postpone the competition and/or the installation of the billboard in such cases. Any additional costs related to the billboard covering for the reveal will be considered as per budget availability.
