Shaah the youngest NWU graduate

North-West University alumnus Shaah Ahmed Ismail Bootha has proven that age is nothing but a number.

The highly ambitious and pragmatic chartered accountant matriculated at the age of 15.  He became the youngest NWU graduate after he obtained his BCom Chartered Accountancy and BComHons Financial Accounting from the NWU in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

The 27-year-old financial manager states that the NWU served as the first milestone in his journey of qualifying as a CA(SA). Not only did he qualify as the youngest CA(SA) in South Africa, but also proudly ranked in the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants’ Top 10 Honours Roll.

He currently works as a financial manager reporting directly to the group chief financial officer at C. Steinweg Bridge, a multinational shipping, warehousing and logistics company.

“I’m involved in group finances for Sub-Saharan Africa which covers our operations in South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Zambia. My role entails liaising with various business units to ensure that adequate financial reporting and budgeting, risk management and compliance are maintained within the group. I also coordinate with the finance team of our parent company in the Netherlands,” says Shaah.

In the next five years he sees himself excelling in his career and holding a more senior leadership role.
